Things are changing now that the Tories are running Ipswich Borough Council - and not for the better.
The Council’s Executive on 19th October heard that over 50 people were living in bed and breakfast accommodation in Ipswich, costing Council Tax payers nearly £850,000 every year. A range of measures were presented to the Executive to ease the problem, nearly all of which were rejected by the Conservative and Liberal Democrat councillors who said that the issue was not a priority at this time.
Surely giving people a decent home is a priority all the time?
Under the Labour administration, the number of households in B&B was reduced from a high of 94 to the current figure. Moving families out of B&Bs was a priority and this was achieved before April 2004. Labour had also set a local target of ending the use of B&B (except for emergency cases) by April 2005. Unfortunately, this will not be met now - I am both disappointed and disgusted with the new Executive.
Tory cuts. There for all to see.
