Bono is a hero of mine from teenage days - I have most of his albums - and I am really impressed with the profile he has given the plight of Africa. I manage to get a seat in the front row of my section and have a good view. I wrote down a few lines that caught my fancy but you can read the whole speech here.
"I'm not used to crowds of less than 100,000"
"6500 Africans per day die from treatable diseases"
"Not about charity, it's about justice. Justice is a higher standard than charity"
"Blair and Brown can change the Real World. "
"Putting right a relationship that has been so very wrong for so very long.
The North, the South, the Have Nots, the have yachts."
"We have to reform the CAP"
"It's every bit as noble as your grandparents fighting the Nazis"
"but do we have the will?"
Yes indeed. Do we, and the rest of the rich world, have the will?
